Hi everyone

Hope you and your family are all well.

These weeks seem to be going super quick and I can’t quite believe that we are about to start July.

The weather was scorching last week and although I love sunny days, I must admit that I was glad that it cooled down. Flo and Isabel, my two dogs were happy too. Taking them for their daily walk was far too dangerous as they could overheat and they were desperate to get out and about. However over the weekend it rained and we went out for a few walks and a run in the park.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been getting out and about in my garden, I really like planting  and watching the plants flower and grow. Mrs Heitzman gave me a tomato plant and everyday I make sure I water it. One day it might even have tomatoes on it if I keep looking after it!  I’m saving up for a greenhouse and my dream is to not only have tomato plants but strawberry and other types like that too! Have you got any gardening tips? If you do, please let me know.

I hope you all managed to take part in Insect Week, I left links on the home learning page. I know that some boys and girls went on bug hunts. I’m sure after all the rain, you could find lots of bugs and creepy crawlies. It would be great to see the pictures of your discoveries.

Each week the home learning page is updated and there are so many good ideas on there that you could click on and explore more. This week the focus is on Vikings. Vikings would have been our History project that we would have been studying now. I actually remember when I first came to St Hugh’s over 18 years ago, it was one of my first topics that I taught my class and we made a huge longship. Maybe you could make your own longship, there are plenty of ideas on how to make one on the home learning page too! I can’t wait to see your creations!

Over the past week or so, I have spoken to a few of you and Mrs Jackson and myself will be phoning around to speak to the rest of you. I loved hearing how well you were doing and lots of you enjoyed telling me about some of the great things you had been up. Afonso has really enjoyed his science lessons with his mum and taking part in a different PE lesson each day. Edith has been practising her maths on Bitesize. It was lovely hearing your voices, I have really miss each and every one of you. I have just finished writing your school reports and they should be going out to you before the end of term in a few weeks time.

Mr Smith has asked me to tell you all about Trafford Schools Sports Partnership Virtual Sports Day. He would like you to take part if possible.

TSSP are holding a virtual sports day. A great way to help promote children’s positive mental health & wellbeing. Click on the YouTube link below to view each of the challenges:

The Big Sleep In

Why The Big Sleep In? Each year Caritas Salford invites people to take in the challenge of The Big Sleep Out—sleeping outside for one night to highlight some of the hardships that many people have to face on the streets every night. This event helps to raise much needed funds for our homelessness projects at Cornerstone Manchester.

This year, due to the pandemic, we were unable to hold the Big Sleep Out so we put our heads together (virtually of course!) to see what we could do instead. So rather than the Big Sleep Out, this year we have decided to hold THE BIG SLEEP IN!

What is The Big Sleep In? In solidarity with many homeless people who fall beneath the radar because they are “sofa-surfers”, we are inviting individuals, families and households to sleep in for the night but somewhere in your home other than in your own comfortable bed. This could be on the floor, on the sofa, under the stairs or somewhere else indoors—as long as it is safe and legal, and complies with the current government guidelines in place for social distancing, protecting yourself and others from coronavirus.

This is an awareness-raising and fundraising event. Any money you raise from The Big Sleep In will go towards our projects to help the homeless and most vulnerable at Cornerstone.

When you register our team will send you information on how to log in to our live webinar: Home Truths—Re-imagining A World Without Homelessness, during which Bishop John Arnold will formally welcome you to The Big Sleep In.

When is The Big Sleep In?

Starts 7 P.M. on FRIDAY, 10th JULY 2020

Finishes after live-streamed Mass celebrated by

Bishop John at 10.00 A.M on SATURDAY, 11th JULY 2020.

Keep reading the weekly blogs and looking at the school website for any news.

Stay safe everyone, hope to see you soon.
