Today Jack, Douglas and Neriyah led our celebration of the word. They helped us to think about how we can become closer to Jesus.

In science today we went outside to look for things that are alive like birds and trees. We found some things that were alive but are no longer living like fallen leaves and twigs. We also found things that have never been alive like stones and the metal slide. Year 1 did a great job
We had a fantastic day celebrating bees today and we learned so much from the bee keepers who came to speak to us. We made our own candles with bees’ wax and we tasted some delicious honey. Now we are working on our bee fact files!
This week Year 1 did some shopping in Sainsbury’s! In history we have been learning about how shopping has changed over the last 70 years. In the supermarket we scanned our own products, printed our own labels and used the self checkout.
Year 1 have enjoyed learning about garden flowers in our science lessons. They planted seeds and hopefully in a couple of weeks we will have some seedlings. We will watch very carefully!
We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day in Year 1. After our whole school assembly we played charades in class, looked at a selection of books and wrote about our favourite book characters.
Year 1 read The Shopping Expedition by Allan Ahlberg and then enjoyed thinking of their own challenges to overcome on a shopping trip. They thought of erupting volcanoes, angry robots, charging rhinos and swirling tornadoes! When all the books were complete the children loved reading them to each other.
Year 1 have enjoyed creating their own sculptures in our art lessons. They did a fantastic job helping each other to roll cylinders and attach them to a base in creative ways.
This week we began our design technology unit of work about sliding mechanisms. We began by looking at examples of sliding mechanisms, then we sorted pictures of objects into those that were sliding mechanisms and those that were not.
The season of Advent began with a very special Advent workshop this week. Sister Ann and Ann led us in a reflection all about Mary. Some of us were asked to do some special jobs to set out the prayer cloth. We all reflected on how we can say ‘yes!’ to God, just like Mary
