Catholic Social Teaching at St Hugh of Lincoln RC Primary School
At St Hugh of Lincoln RC Primary School, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes our identity as a faith-filled community, guiding our commitment to nurturing a school where compassion, respect, and service to others are lived out each day.
CST teaches us about the dignity of every human person, the importance of community and participation, and our shared duty to care for God’s creation. These principles are woven through our curriculum, assemblies, and wider school life, helping our children to grow as thoughtful, socially responsible individuals rooted in Gospel values.
We encourage our pupils to engage with real-world issues such as poverty, inequality, and environmental care. Through lessons, charitable projects, and service opportunities, children learn not only about the challenges facing others but also how they can be part of the solution—locally, nationally, and globally.
At St Hugh of Lincoln, our children take part in meaningful activities that serve and support both the local community and those further afield. These experiences help to build empathy, inspire action, and nurture a deep understanding of what it means to love our neighbour.
In the classroom, pupils are encouraged to reflect on CST through discussion and exploration of issues such as justice, peace, and stewardship. These conversations help children to connect their faith with the world around them, understanding how their choices and actions can make a difference.
By living out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, we prepare our pupils at St Hugh of Lincoln RC Primary School to become compassionate, courageous, and active members of society. We strive to build a school where every person is valued, every voice is respected, and every action reflects the love and teachings of Christ.
