At St Hugh of Lincoln RC Primary School, Stretford, our pupil leadership groups – including our Caritas Ambassadors, Prayer Leaders, School Council, and Laudato Si’ Team – play a vital role in the life of our school. Each group has a unique mission, but together they embody our commitment to developing the hearts, minds, and spirits of our children.

Our pupil leaders inspire others to live out our Catholic faith with integrity, compassion, faith, justice, and service. They put their faith into action through prayer, social action, promoting Human Rights, caring for God’s creation, and teaching others how to look after the world around us.

By their example, our pupil leaders show that even the simplest actions, when rooted in love, can make a lasting difference. They help to strengthen our school community and guide us all to grow as a faith-filled family who serve God by serving others.

Caritas Ambassadors

At St Hugh of Lincoln, we are proud of our Caritas Ambassadors. They are children in our school who lead the way in showing kindness, care, and love for others.

Our Caritas Ambassadors help everyone to think about the needs of people in our school, our local community, and around the world. They come up with their own ideas and run projects to raise awareness, fundraise, and support those in need.

They put their faith into action by reaching out to others, supporting charities, and being a voice for change. Through their good works, they share God’s love and inspire all of us to make the world a fairer, kinder place.

As Caritas Ambassadors, they follow the Seven Catholic Social Teaching themes:

Dignity of every person
Family and community
Working together for the common good
Rights and responsibilities
Putting the poor and vulnerable first
The dignity of work
Caring for God’s creation

They also live out our school values of integrity, compassion, faith, justice, and service in everything they do. By following these values, our Caritas Ambassadors help our whole school family to grow in faith, hope, and love.

Prayer Leaders

At St Hugh of Lincoln, we have a dedicated group of pupils called our Prayer Leaders who have a vital role to play in enhancing the religious life of our school. They meet regularly to plan liturgical events and to help develop the faith life of our school community.

Our Prayer Leaders have an important mission: to spread the Word of God throughout our school and beyond. They help children to understand the stories of the Bible and relate them to their own lives. The Prayer Leaders also lead prayer, prepare prayer areas, deliver collective worship, and organise liturgical events.

Pupils who are Prayer Leaders are entrusted with the responsibility of:

Giving joyful witness to Christ in our school, being missionary disciples.
Supporting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all pupils across the curriculum.
Providing peer pastoral care by being role models for others.
Assisting with assemblies, worship, class prayer times, and prayer groups.
Developing the use of sacred spaces around school, including our prayer areas, garden, and other special places of reflection.

Through their commitment, our Prayer Leaders help to strengthen the Catholic life of our school, bringing us closer together in faith, prayer, and service.

School Council

At St Hugh of Lincoln, we have a dedicated School Council who are vital members of our pupil leadership team. School Council members are voted for by their classmates and have an important role in making our school the best it can be.

Our School Council members:

Make decisions – helping to decide how our school is run and organised.
Support learning and development – taking on projects that help all children learn and grow.
Represent the school – sharing our school’s voice at events and within the community.
Promote Human Rights – learning about the rights of all people and teaching others about their importance.
Be role models – following our school rules and showing positive behaviour.
Communicate – joining in meetings and giving feedback to classmates afterwards.
Show respect – listening to others and valuing their ideas.
Be responsible – working hard to get things done.
Be open-minded – welcoming new ideas and suggestions.
Enjoy teamwork – working together to make a difference.

Our School Council aims to help pupils develop leadership skills, learn about Human Rights and responsibilities, practise effective communication, and work together to create a fair and happy school community.

Laudato Si’ Team (Eco Team)

At St Hugh of Lincoln, our Laudato Si’ Team embodies our commitment to caring for God’s creation. Inspired by Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’, they encourage everyone to look after our common home and live out our Catholic values with purpose, compassion, and joy.

The Laudato Si’ Team plays a key role in strengthening our school community by leading projects that promote care for the environment. They teach others how to protect the world around us, raise awareness about environmental issues, and inspire us to make choices that show respect for God’s creation.

Through their words, actions, and example, our Laudato Si’ Team helps us to grow as a faith-filled family who serve God by caring for our planet and one another.

Climate Action Plan

Guided by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si – Care for Our Common Home – and Catholic Social Teaching (particularly the principles of the Common Good, Stewardship, Solidarity, and Option for the Poor), we place a golden thread off sustainability through our school life: curriculum, leadership, community engagement, and operations.
