What can we learn from our local War Memorials?

For our topic ‘How has Conflict Impacted our Local Area?’ We have been visiting different types of War Memorials in Urmston. We have considered the reasons they were commissioned and who they commemorate. We were even lucky enough to speak to one of the designers of the benches in the Veterans’ Garden in Canterbury Park.

We have been investigating what Georgian Britain was like for people who lived in Manchester. The everyday people were not represented in Parliament. We have been looking at who had the right to vote and how this made people feel.

Which Exercise Raises your Heart Rate the Most?

In Science as part of our Circulatory System we have been investigating heart rates. We completed a range of exercises and made sure we controlled the variables to ensure we completed a fair test. Burpees increased our heart rate the most whereas sit ups increased it the least.

Bikeability

Bikeability started today! Bikes and safety checks completed, helmets on and all ready to learn how to navigate the roads in our local area safely. Skills for life!

Code breakers
Year 6J

Code Breakers

We have started our Computing topic by studying different types of codes, investigating how codes are written, solving common codes that were used in the war at Bletchley Park and then showing what we had learnt by writing our own. We have realised how important codes are and what amazing code breakers we are!
