Image of How are you getting on?

Hello everyone

How are you getting on? As I write this blog, I am sitting in my kitchen thinking of you all, wondering how you are getting on in this very strange time.

This week Mrs Jackson and myself will be phoning you and your families, and I am really looking forward to hear what you have been up to.

I had a zoom quiz with friends on Saturday evening. Mrs. Butler organised it and it was great fun. Molly helped me with the Music round as I didn’t have a clue! I didn’t win but that didn’t matter. There was one question on it and immediately I thought about you as I know you like riddles. Can you answer it ....

You might have noticed that new home learning pages have been placed on the school website and they are full of great ideas that will help you to continue to do some work at home. I know there can be lots of distractions but if you set a little bit of time aside it will keep your mind active.

Of course school work is important but so is keeping active and getting a bit of fresh air. The weather is supposed to be nice this week and it’s important to go for a walk with your family. I see lots of families on their bikes and when I am walking I look out in case I see one of you so I can give you a big wave!

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme this year is kindness.

It seems that it has never been more important that in a world where you can be anything, be kind.

For that reason, Year 4/5 I am setting you a challenge.  I would like you to carry out an act of random kindness for someone during next week.  It can be anything, as long as it’s following social distancing conventions of course! I have given you some ideas but I know there are lots more you could think of.

I would love to see photos of what you get up to, please tweet or send in your random acts of kindness to the school.  I might even have a little sweety treat for those children who do this, so get thinking of how you can show kindness.

Get involved with random acts of kindness

  • Call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while
  • Tell a family member how much you love and appreciate them
  • Make a cup of tea for someone you live with (Please be CAREFUL!!!!)
  • Help with a household chore at home
  • Arrange to watch a film at the same time as a friend and video call
  • Tell someone you know that you are proud of them
  • Tell someone you know why you are thankful for them
  • Send someone you know a joke to cheer them up
  • Send an inspirational quote to a friend
  • Spend time playing with your pet
  • Donate to a charity
  • Donate to food-banks
  • Offer to skill share with a friend via video call - you could teach guitar, dance etc.

The National Literacy Trust is supporting the ‘My Dear New Friend’. The project encourages children to write letters to people living in care homes.  #MyDearNewFriend

Maybe this could be your act of Kindness!

May is the Month of Mary when we think about Mary's role as mother of Jesus and say her special prayer every day.  The words of the Hail Mary are set out below for you to say the prayer at home.

Hail Mary full of Grace,

the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are thou amongst women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.

Holy Mary Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death

Amen.

In May we usually dedicate our altars in school to Our Lady so this link to a powerpoint from Twinkl helps you if you would like to set up an altar to Mary at home
