Image of Walking Bus App

St Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Primary School have the proud distinction of being one of the first ‘Pioneer Schools’ to test a “Where’s my walking School bus ?” smartphone Application. Parents reported on finding it being a support and saving them time.  Indications are that this may be very useful in future to schools and families but as yet it is only under trial.

Liz Smith of the Department of Psychology, Salford University, came to our school twice in July to trial a new Walking School Bus App for Smart phones.  It was part of a project about Walking Buses led by Sarah Norgate at Salford University. Several parents of children using the Walking School Bus were loaned i-phones which showed the position of the bus, allowing parents to check its progress.  Children who use a Walking School Bus increase their independence and road safety awareness. Special thanks are due to the families and the volunteers who helped with this project.
