Hello again year 6,

Hope you are all well and managing to keep safe at this strange time. It’s been a bit more difficult this week hasn’t it? The sun has not been shining as much, but hopefully this week it will get better. Well done to Ciaran who’s become the latest member of our class to run 5k and donate £5- I’m really proud of you. I’m feeling a bit fed up about not being able to plan the normal things we do in Year 6 at this time of year. We should be doing SATs on the 13th May! So, it’s not all bad -every cloud has a silver lining. Several of your parents said that you were managing to create routines, working in the morning then having the afternoons free to spend time with your families- great idea. This is exactly what we have been doing at my house. I’m sure you all know that it’s VE day on Friday- let me know if you are celebrating in some way? On my road, we are having a street party- social distancing of course.

Maths I know that some of you are coming to the end of your SATs books, so I thought I’d remind you about a few things to keep your maths skills sharp. We used to do Corbett Maths all the time in school, it’s a great way of revising the different topics that we have studied this year- you could do these at home and then check the answers.

History: We were really enjoying our history topic of Crime and Punishment, it’s such a shame we didn’t get to finish it. The next period of history we were going to look at was Crime and Punishment in the Victorian Era. At the start of the Victorian Era, there was no official police force- find out how this changed by following this link.

Geography: We’d also made lots of progress with our geography skills too. I’d really like you to remind yourselves of some important Geography facts by going on this website.

Reading: The most important thing of all. I really hope that you are using your time to catch up with some reading, a few of your parents told me that you were enjoying having the time to read more books- this made me really happy. Mrs. Smith sent me a link for an E book, it includes pieces of writing, stories and pictures to comfort and inspire children during lockdown-why not give it a try?

I hope I’ve given you some ideas for this week. Take care and stay safe.

Lots of love from

Mrs Evans and Mrs Stanley xxx
