Hello Year 6,

I hope you are enjoying a break from home learning and having fun in the sun. I bet you’ve had your paddling pools out too?

I know some of you will have missed holidays away this week or last. I did too, we felt a bit fed up and disappointed but the good weather here has really cheered us up and we are just glad to be together and most importantly healthy.

Whatever you decide to do this week, please do not forget the importance of reading!

The image at the top of the page is of a book that Mrs Jones and I would like to recommend to all Y6s.

The coming weeks are an important time for you to prepare for your move to your chosen high schools.

In school and online, we will be providing ‘Transition to Secondary School’ activities related to some of the subjects discussed in the book that we think you will enjoy and will be useful for you to complete.

So if you are looking for your next book, have some pocket money left to spend or an idea for a gift then this is an essential read over the summer.  It is a book very similar to the ‘You Are Awesome’ handbook that we referred to a lot in school. However, ‘Go Big’ is a practical, funny guide to being awesome at Secondary School, full of tips and advice on all the things to help you with your transition. I wish that we had discovered this last year when Sam was starting high school- he’s been reading it anyway and agrees that it has some great tips in it.

We seem to be living through some very important historical events at the moment.History was made when SpaceX (Elon Musk’s company) sent NASA astronauts into space from the same launch pad in Florida as the Apollo 11 Moon landings of the 1960’s. The craft, named Crew Dragon, blasted off at 20:22 heading to the International Space Station. It was carrying two American astronauts, Doug Hurley and Robert Behken, who were launched into space at a speed of over 17,000 miles per hour. If you were lucky then you might have caught sight of the rocket as it orbited the Earth for the second time just after 10pm. We couldn’t see it- did you? They have made it onto the Space Station and you can watch their interview as they docked on the BBC website.

Thank you to all of you who have been in touch sharing your  different pieces of work and other achievements. It’s so lovely for me to hear from you.Keep them coming in! I am really looking forward to seeing some of you very soon as we start to open school, I cannot wait!

Lots of love, take care and stay safe,

Mrs Evans and Mrs Stanley xx
