Hi Year 5

I hope you are all enjoying your holiday! What have you been doing? We are certainly lucky with the weather at the moment. My husband and I have been in the garden as much as possible playing tennis and other games with Lucinda, who is also refining her skipping and hoola hooping skills!

We were also preparing for a special occasion. Yesterday it was Lucinda’s 7th birthday. 

Although we knew we couldn’t celebrate it in the same way as usual, we did our best to make it enjoyable. We decorated the house and garden with balloons and bunting so she would have a surprise in the morning. Lucinda chose her birthday tea - homemade pizza followed by popcorn - and her princess tiara birthday cake. Lots of people sent her cards and presents through the post, which was very kind, and she thoroughly enjoyed unwrapping them! In the afternoon, we had lots of video calls with family and some of her friends from school. 

It is important to mark and celebrate special occasions and we know that Lucinda really enjoyed her unique lockdown birthday. I’m sure it is something she’ll never forget.

During this second week of the holiday, we should have been enjoying a family break to the Lake District, which we were really looking forward to. We are sad that we are having to miss spending time in one of our favourite places this week but we also know that we will be able to go there again and have a great time when it is safer to do so. I know there will be things that you are missing too, maybe you had holidays planned with your family. We will get to do all the things we miss in the future and just think how much we’ll enjoy and appreciate them!

As it is still the holiday, there is no home learning planning for this week. However, please try to keep reading, it is really important. Lucinda and I have been reading Matilda and The Witches over the last couple of weeks and she’s now moving onto the Worst Witch ( it seems she likes stories with magic!)
