Chalky Subtractions!
To find the difference between two totals, Year 5 used the finding the difference method. They drew empty number lines on the playground with chalk to show their understanding.

Gorgeous Gruel!
Year 5 ate gruel today as part of their work on Victorians. The children have been learning about the workhouse because Jim Jarvis in Street Child (the class novel) has just been taken there. Surprisingly some of the children liked the gruel.

P4C - Philosophy for Children
Year 5 enjoy their Philosophy lessons. This week the children listened to the story of Adam and Eve. They then discussed who they thought were at fault in the story. Some children said Eve, others said Adam, and God and the Snake were mentioned too! Great speaking and listening skills Year 5!

Think Friday
Every Friday children are presented with a mathematical problem. They work in pairs/groups to talk about the problem and decide which strategy to use. This weeks problem was particularly challenging however eventually it was solved!

Amazing Authors!
In Year 5 we have just started to read 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. All we know so far is that it is about a boy called Jim Jarvis who is from the Victorian times. It sounds really interesting and we can't wait to find out what else happens!
